Fast Toothache Relief | Natural Ways of Dealing With a Toothache

Posted on: 20 January 2016

A toothache is a serious pain that can cause you sleepless nights if not taken care of. It mainly occurs when the pulp cavity is irritated or inflamed.  This could be caused by tooth fractures, cavities, tooth decay or infected gums. Most people go for pain relief drugs when the pain gets out of control. But drugs normally have side effects such as an upset stomach, and some may even cause more damage, particularly if not prescribed by the doctor. So to prevent all that unwanted stress, use natural techniques. Here are some of the best ways to get rid of that annoying toothache.

Fresh Peppermint and Salt

Fresh peppermint acts as an excellent tooth pain reliever, particularly for sensitive teeth. Adding salt maximizes its effects.  Boil the salt and fresh peppermint in water and gurgle it while lukewarm. You could also create a paste, then apply it on the affected area and leave it still for a while before rinsing. Use the paste for several days. Both salt and peppermint are useful because they have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Whiskey

Whiskey is another brilliant way of relieving tooth pain. You can try passing whiskey over the irritated tooth, or sipping it then swishing it inside your mouth. The alcoholic properties of whisky will act as an anaesthetic to the pained area. Whiskey also numbs the pained area.

Garlic

Chewing one or two cloves of garlic can bring you a lot of relief. The antibiotic property of the garlic is what makes it so effective at getting rid of the infection and reducing the pain. You could also apply a paste of crushed garlic and salt on the affected area. The salt also kills any present bacteria and reduces infection.

Onion

Onions, on the other hand, have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that control a toothache by killing the germs causing an infection. Simply chew raw onion for a few minutes, or if you are unable to chew, place a piece of raw onion directly on the bad tooth or gum.

Cloves

Cloves relieve tooth infections and pain relief via their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anaesthetic properties. They contain eugenol that makes it so effective in combating infections and instantly relieving pain. So how do you use cloves? It's simple, all you have to do is crush the cloves and mix them up with some vegetable or olive oil. Gently apply the resultant mixture where the tooth hurts most and wait for several minutes.

These methods may relieve the pain for a time, but if the tooth's pulp has been damaged or harbors infection, you'll need to see a dentist to have the problem treated. For more information, contact a local dental clinic
