Avoid These Foods If You Have Sensitive Teeth
Posted on: 20 December 2016
The holiday season is here with us. Most households prepare the biggest meals of the year at this time. If you have sensitive teeth, you need to keep off certain foods. Holiday buffets make it easy to trigger teeth sensitivity or even make it worse.
Here are some of the foods you need to either avoid or limit your intake of:
Vinaigrette salad dressings
Eating salads is healthy after filling up on holiday sides such as stuffing, ham, and turkey. However, if your salad is soaked in vinaigrette dressing, that's disaster for your teeth. In fact, the sweeter the dressing is, the more you'll hurt because of the insane sugar levels.
Ice cream
Ice cream gets two strikes. Primarily, it's rich in sugar that can cause tooth decay. Secondly, ice cream is cold which may trigger intense pain in sensitive teeth. Consuming too much ice cream not only causes sensitivity but it also prompts side effects.
Fruit pies
Granted, this can be incredible news to pumpkin pie. However, it's quite sad for the apple pie aficionados. Unlike the other pies, fruit pies are definitely a double whammy. They contain too much sugar that triggers tooth sensitivity.
Eggnog
Some people love eggnog to death while others hate it with a passion. If you're in the former group, just know that the teeth in your mouth hate that you love eggnog, because it has crazy levels of sugar and fat in it. The best thing is to avoid these holiday sweet treats. Nonetheless, if it's necessary that you eat them, make sure you rinse your mouth with plenty of water. Doing so gets rid of fat and sugar that remains on your teeth after each eggnog sip.
Too hot drinks/foods
Just like cold foods make you wince, taking hot foods is a no go if your teeth are sensitive. Some of the foods you need to keep off while too hot include mashed potatoes, piping hot hors d'oeuvres, soups etc. While their aroma might prove it difficult, you need to be patient while your food/drink is steaming.
Sweet treats characterize the holidays. While that might be the case, you need to choose foods that will leave your teeth healthy. The last thing you want is for your pearly whites to be stained or suffer from excruciating pain because of teeth sensitivity. Therefore, do your due diligence by avoiding the above foods or drinks.
